Able Seaman Course in Florida

This is our Able Seaman Course taught right here in Florida. Our Able Seaman course satisfies the exam requirements of Lifeboat Limited. Why is that important? In order to qualify for an Able Seaman Endorsement, Mariners MUST have lifeboat training. At MTC Maritime Training Center, our course satisfies the exam requirements for lifeboat limited, AND we offer Lifeboat Limited Assessments along with this course. With the exam requirements AND the Lifeboat Limited Assessments, Students will qualify for their Able Seaman Endorsement.

If you take the Able Seaman Course somewhere else, be sure to ask if the course satisfies the exam requirements for lifeboat limited, Otherwise they will charge you a lot more money to take their Proficiency in Survival Craft Course (which you would ONLY need if you plan on working on ships with actual lifeboats). Most mariners will only need lifeboat limited assessments which qualifies them to work on vessels without lifeboats (Liferaft only).

Able Seaman Requirements

How to qualify for an Able Seaman Endorsement

Must be 18 years old
Must be a U.S Citizen or be an alien approved for permanent residence.
Must hold a Medical Certificate or be approved for a Medical Certificate.
Must be Drug Testing Compliant.
Mariner fees must be paid

Sea Service Requirements for Able Seaman

Able Seaman Unlimited
- 1080 days deck service on Oceans or Great Lakes.
Able Seaman Limited
- 540 days deck service on vessels of 100 GRT or more, not exclusive to rivers & smaller inland lakes of the U. S.
Able Seaman Special
- 360 days deck service on navigable waters of the U. S.
Able Seaman OSV
- 180 days deck service on navigable waters of the U. S.
Able Seaman Sail
- 180 days of deck service on sailing school vessels, oceanographic research vessels powered primarily by sail or equivalent sail vessels on any navigable waters of the U. S
Able Seaman Fishing
- 180 days of deck service, not as a processor, on any navigable waters of the U.S.
Able Seaman MODU (Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit)
- 360 days of service on vessels 65 feet or over on any navigable waters of the U.S.

Course completion in lieu of exam.
