Course Description

Completion of the these assessments from Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) No. 04-14: Qualification for STCW Endorsements for Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC)-Limited and Lifeboatman-Limited (Liferaft Assessments).

These Assessments are signed off individually or as part of our Able Seaman with Lifeboat course.

The United States Coast Guard now requires Able Seaman to have some sort of lifeboat training before they can qualify for the endorsement. MTC Maritime Training Center is one of a few schools who offer the Able Seaman course with lifeboat training. We also satisfy the testing requirements for lifeboatman. This means that our students have the advantage of having satisfied both the testing requirements along with these practical assessments to get their endorsement.

For those Mariners who do not qualify for Able Seaman, an Ordinary Seaman may be issued. It will then be up to Individual boat companies or unions whether Lifeboat Assessments are needed.

These assessments are:

  • Completed by MTC Maritime Training Centers Qualified Assessor
  • Are scheduled by appointment only.
  • Held on Marine Towing of Tampa’s Tugboats.
