Preparation

Before you can get your Captain’s License, there are requirements and steps that you’ll need to follow. Obtaining your Captain’s License online is the most efficient way to do this.

But it does require preparation and dedication on your part.

Firstly, you must determine which Captain’s license type best suits your needs.

The Captains License Online OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels) Course is the most common for recreational activities such as fishing charters, whale watching tours, or other passenger trips up to 6 passengers.

The Maritime Training Center’s OUPV Course covers all topics related to operating a vessel under Coast Guard regulations.

These include Environmental Regulations, Navigation Rules, Aids Navigation, Captain’s Responsibilities, Emergencies, and Deck and Safety Equipment.

Once you have enrolled in the Maritime Training Center’s OUPV Course, there are a few more steps required before you receive your Captain’s License.

Receive Your Captain’s License Application Package

Once you have enrolled in the Maritime Training Center’s OUPV Course, there are a few more steps required before you receive your Captain’s License: The first step is to gather the necessary documents.

These include the Captain’s License Application, Captain’s License medical form, and Sea Service Form. Once you have the paperwork in order, the next step is to fill out the application.

Be sure to complete all sections legibly and accurately. Incomplete or illegible applications will be returned for correction, which will delay the processing of your license.

Once your application is complete, submit it along with the required fee to the US Coast Guard Licensing Center. You will then be contacted to schedule a physical examination and oral exam.

Upon successful completion of these exams, they will issue your Captain’s license. Congratulations, you are now qualified to captain your own vessel!

Enroll and Submit a Drug Test

To enroll in drug testing at the Maritime Training Center, you need to give us some basic information and a valid government-issued ID. We use this information to create your drug testing profile.

This is then stored in a secure database. Once your profile is created, you can schedule your drug test at any of our participating locations.

To take your test, simply show your ID and provide a urine sample. Your sample will be tested for drugs, and we’ll get the results back within 24 hours.

If you’re enrolled in our random testing program, you may be selected for a test at any time. However, we will always give you at least 24 hours notice before your scheduled test.

Submit the Captain’s License Application to the Coast Guard

After you have done everything to apply for your Captain’s license and submitted it, the Maritime Training Center will check it. If everything is good, they will send it to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard will usually say yes or no within a few weeks. If everything is good, you will get your Captain’s license in the mail.

If there are problems with your application, the Coast Guard will write to you and tell you what needs to be fixed. Once you have made the changes, submit your application again.

Take the Captain’s OUPV Final Exam

To become a Captain, you must first take and pass the OUPV final exam. This is an online exam that tests your knowledge of the Captain’s license topics. You must receive an 80% or higher to pass this exam.

The topics covered on the exam include navigation, rules of the road, chart interpretation, meteorology, seamanship, and emergency procedures. The exam is two hours long and consists of 100 questions.

While the majority of the questions are Multiple Choice, there are also True/False and fill-in-the-blank questions. You will have three chances to pass the exam.

If you do not pass the exam on your first try, you may retake the exam after 14 days. If you do not pass on your second try, you may retake the test.

Submit Proof of Sea Service Time

To get a Captain’s License, you need to have at least 360 days of documented sea service time. This means that you have worked on a boat or other type of marine vessel for a certain amount of time.

The time doesn’t have to be all in one chunk, but it must be within the past 5 years. You need to submit a Sea Service Form to show your experience. This form can be downloaded from the Maritime Training Center website.

Once you have the form, fill it out and submit it with the rest of your application materials. If you have the required experience and documentation, you will likely be able to get your Captain’s License.

Attend a Captain’s License Physical

To get a Captain’s License, you have to go to a doctor first. The Coast Guard wants to make sure that all applicants are in good physical and mental health.

This means that the applicant cannot have a history of substance abuse or mental illness. During the physical, the doctor will check your overall health and fitness level.

They will also check your vision and hearing, and make sure that you are up to date on all of your vaccinations. Once you have passed the physical, you will be able to move on to the next step in the Captain’s License application process.

You Can Be Licensed in Just 4-6 Weeks!

The Maritime Training Center’s OUPV Course makes it possible for you to become a professional mariner in 4-6 weeks. The course provides training on maritime law, navigation, and safety.

You will be prepared to take the Coast Guard licensing exam after completing the course. Your license will be mailed to you within a few weeks once you have passed the exam and submitted all required documentation.

Is My Captain’s License Subject to Renewal?

Yes, Captain’s licenses are subject to renewal every 5 years. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) requires that all licensed captains complete a renewal process every 5 years in order to maintain their active status.

The renewal process includes completing a new application, providing updated documentation, and passing a written exam.

Captains who fail to renew their license within the 5-year timeframe will be required to retake and pass the initial licensing exam in order to regain their active status.

The Maritime Training Center provides an easy way to renew your Captain’s license online. This is with their Captain’s License Renewal Package.

This package includes all the necessary forms, practice tests, and guides needed to successfully complete your Captain’s license renewal.

The package also includes access to a customer support team who can answer any questions you may have about the renewal process. Getting your Captain’s license renewed has never been easier!

What Will It Cost to Get My Captain’s License?

The Maritime Training Center’s OUPV Course offers a variety of pricing options based on the type of Captain’s license you are applying for. They offer an affordable Captain’s License Renewal Package, as well as individual courses.

They also offer packages tailored to various levels of Captain’s license. The package includes the application fee, Coast Guard license renewal fee, and evaluation fee.

The prices for the individual courses vary depending on the course, but the Maritime Training Center offers some great deals.

Regardless of which option you choose, the Maritime Training Center’s OUPV Course is an affordable way to get your captain’s license.

Does My License Cover Me to Captain Any Size Ship?

No, Captain’s licenses are only valid for certain types of ships and operations. The Captain’s license you receive will depend on the type of Captain’s license course you take with the Maritime Training Center.

For example, a captain’s license for a small vessel does not qualify the holder to operate a large ship. There are also different licenses for different types of vessels, such as fishing vessels, passenger vessels, and towing vessels.

In addition, some licenses are only valid for coastal waters while others are valid for oceans. To make sure you have the right license for your needs, be sure to check with the Maritime Training Center before taking a course.
